Mount Vernon Community School District, established in 1956, offers education to students in grades kindergarten through 12. It has an enrollment of more than 1,100 students and consists of elementary, middle and high schools. The district s curriculum includes English, American history, science, social studies, business education, foreign language, mathematics and physical and vocational education. The agency provides residential and employment opportunities for adults with disabilities. Exceptional Persons conducts several rehabilitation activities, including exercise and cooking sessions and outdoor trips. The agency provides various recreational opportunities, such as arts and crafts sessions, sports activities and music classes. Exceptional Persons also offers the Child and Adult Care Food Program, which provides financial resources to child care homes to assure that the children are offered nutritionally balanced snacks and meals. The agency provides employment opportunities in the areas of vacuuming, polishing, trimming and mowing.
