The Worth County Freedom Rock, located in Kensett, IA, stands as a monumental tribute to the nation's veterans. Artist Ray "Bubba" Sorensen II meticulously repaints this massive boulder annually to express gratitude for the service of our veterans. Inspired by a commitment to honoring Memorial Day and the movie Saving Private Ryan, Sorensen pours his heart into this labor of love alongside the support of his family and community.
What started in rural Iowa has now blossomed into a statewide initiative with a Freedom Rock in each of Iowa's 99 counties, and the 100th in Altoona, IA. Moving beyond state borders, Sorensen has launched the 50 State Freedom Rock Tour, spreading the message of gratitude nationwide. Beyond his artistic pursuits, Sorensen also serves as an Iowa Legislator, balancing his passion for painting with public service from January through April/May at the State Capitol.
