Smithland is a city in Woodbury County, Iowa, United States. It is part of the Sioux City, IA–NE–SD Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 221 at the 2000 census.

Smithland is located at 42°13?45?N 95°55?55?W / 42.22917°N 95.93194°W / 42.22917; -95.93194 (42.229078, -95.931875). The town is situated near the Little Sioux River, where the river valley courses through the Loess Hills on its way to the floodplain of the Missouri River.
