Skarshaug Testing Laboratory, established in 1946 by Ozzie and Harold Skarshaug in Ames, Iowa, began as an engineering consultant and meter repair shop. Over the years, the company evolved into a specialized testing laboratory, focusing on the safety and reliability of insulating rubber gloves and other protective equipment.

In 2005, Skarshaug Testing Laboratory moved to a larger facility, expanding its capabilities to better serve power companies and contractors. The laboratory is recognized for its commitment to safety standards and was the first accredited member of the National Association for Independent Laboratories for Rubber Goods Testing, founded by Paul Skarshaug in 1980.
