The Freedom Rock, established in 1999 and located in rural Iowa, is a large boulder that is repainted annually to honor the nation's veterans. Artist Ray Bubba Sorensen II, inspired by the film "Saving Private Ryan," dedicates his time to this project with the support of family and friends, ensuring that each year's mural expresses gratitude for veterans' service to the country.
In addition to the original Freedom Rock, Sorensen has created a Freedom Rock in each of Iowa's 99 counties, promoting the message of appreciation for veterans throughout the state. He has also launched the 50 State Freedom Rock Tour, expanding his mission to recognize veterans across the nation.
