Mercy Medical Center is a more than 900-bed acute care, nonprofit Catholic hospital located in Des Moines, Iowa. It was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1893. The center employs more than 5,000 people, with a medical staff of over 800 physicians and allied health professionals. It is one of the Midwest's major referral centers, with areas of excellence in heart, cancer, birthing and pediatrics services, emergency and trauma services, medical imaging, critical care, neurology, orthopedics and behavioral medicine.
