Jones County Conservation
Pictured Rocks Wildlife Area, located just five miles south of Monticello, Iowa, encompasses 726 acres along the banks of the Maquoketa River. This diverse terrain features steep limestone bluffs, making it an ideal destination for smallmouth bass fishing, canoeing, hiking, and wildlife observation.
The area is home to several small caves that attract spelunkers, while its hiking trails meander through undeveloped hardwood forests. Pictured Rocks and the adjacent Indian Bluffs have been designated as a Bird Conservation Area, providing excellent opportunities for deer and turkey hunting, as well as enjoying the natural beauty of woodland wildflowers.
