Independence Mental Health Institute

The Independence Mental Health Institute provides inpatient psychiatric treatment and specialized residential programs for adults, adolescents and children. The hospital's mission is to treat northeast Iowans that have mental problems and return them to their communities as soon as possible. Its service area includes nearly 30 counties in northeast Iowa. Services are provided to any person in need of mental health treatment regardless of ability to pay. The therapeutic effort is comprehensive and can include the use of medication, psychotherapy, group counseling, education and activity therapies. Each patient has an individual treatment plan that not only focuses on his/her problems, but also takes into account his/her assets. The major aspects of the plan include addressing the patient's psychological, physical, education/vocational and social/cultural needs.
