The company served area farmers and small town people with a quality line of livestock remedies and household products. At that time, Frank Furst, a young Freeport lawyer, joined his talents and ambition with those of Frederick McNess, a brilliant pharmacist in this new venture. Horse drawn delivery buggy from early 1900's right from the start, our company's line included effective livestock products such as McNess Saltonic In the late 50's, Furst-McNess answered farmer's needs for vitamin/mineral premixes to be used in making livestock rations right on the farm. Midwestern farmers were provided these premixes out of the Freeport, Illinois plant that also now serves as the company's headquarters. Company officers are Jack Smit, Vice President Agribusiness Division; Matthew Hartman, Chief Financial Officer; Matthew Heinrich, Vice President Technology; David Youngblut, Vice President Operations; Martha Furst, President and Chief Executive Officer and Frank E. In 1966 company founder and President Ron Wetherell ( with wife Sandy and 2 children Todd and Lisa, who are also involved with the business ) moved to Cleghorn upon purchasing a small repair shop.If you are not familiar with the Wetherell name or product line, here is a little history. In 1966 company founder and President Ron Wetherell ( with wife Sandy and 2 children Todd and Lisa, who are also involved with the business ) moved to Cleghorn upon purchasing a small repair shop. ( Cleghorn is a small farming community located in northwest Iowa approximately 50 miles northeast of Sioux City on highway 3. ) Immediately Wetherell started producing field sprayers with the thought that he could build them just a little bit better ( stronger ) than the other guys.Word of mouth soon spread and in 1975 Wetherell Mfg out grew their location in downtown Cleghorn and moved to their current facility at 407 W Grace st on the west side of Cleghorn. Since then Wetherell has continued to grow and after several additions they now operate with more than 40, 000 square feet of manufacturing and warehouse space. Over the years they have produced many products including Field sprayers, Fall tillage, Row crop, Mechanics truck bodies with cranes, Man lifts, products for the food service industry, and of course Hydraulic cylinders. Wetherell Mfg is proud of their quality products and long history in the agriculture industry and looks forward to many more years of producing quality equipment.Wetherell Mfg is a family-owned and operated business that also owns and maintains 9 franchised cable TV systems. Company founder Ron Wetherell is also on the board of directors of Little Sioux Corn processors, a 100 Million gallon a year ethanol plant near Marcus, IA and Siouxland Ethanol, a 50 million gallon ethanol plant located near Jackson, NE.
