The Freedom Rock, established in 1999 and located in rural Iowa, is a large boulder that is annually repainted to honor the nation's veterans. Artist Ray Bubba Sorensen II, inspired by the film "Saving Private Ryan," dedicates his efforts to give veterans unique recognition through his artwork, supported by donations from family and friends.
In addition to the original Freedom Rock, Sorensen has created a Freedom Rock in each of Iowa's 99 counties, expanding his mission with the 50 State Freedom Rock Tour. His work not only celebrates veterans but also fosters community engagement through art, as he travels to paint murals across the country.
