Great little spot to explore for an hour or two. Brought two kids - 5 and 7. Everyone enjoyed crawling around the rock formations.

Imagine walking on a 375 million year old ocean floor! This glimpse into Iowa’s geologic past was first exposed during the Floods of 1993 at Coralville Lake, then further exposed during the Floods of 2008. The fossils and limestone bedrock of the Devonian Fossil Gorge date back almost 200 million years before the dinosaurs!
The Devonian Fossil Gorge Brochure has detailed information for each marker in the gorge is now available online and printed copies are located at the entrance to the site. Visitors can take a self guided tour using the brochure.
Please keep in mind that the removal of, or damage to the fossils is strictly prohibited and subject to a fine.
