The Freedom Rock, established in 1999 and located in rural Iowa, is a large boulder that is repainted annually to honor the service of U.S. veterans. Artist Ray Bubba Sorensen II, inspired by the film "Saving Private Ryan," dedicates his time to this project with the support of family, friends, and community donations.
In addition to the original Freedom Rock, Sorensen has created a Freedom Rock in each of Iowa's 99 counties, promoting a message of gratitude for veterans. He has also initiated the 50 State Freedom Rock Tour, expanding his mission to recognize veterans across the country.
