The Freedom Rock, established in 1999 and located in rural Iowa, is a large boulder that is repainted annually to honor the nation's veterans. Artist Ray Bubba Sorensen II, inspired by the film "Saving Private Ryan," dedicates his time to this project, supported by donations from family and friends.
In addition to the original Freedom Rock, Sorensen has created a unique Freedom Rock in each of Iowa's 99 counties, with plans to expand the initiative nationwide through the 50 State Freedom Rock Tour. His work not only celebrates veterans but also fosters community engagement and appreciation for their service.
