Washington Township Fire Department
The Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department (WTVFD), established in 1952 and chartered in 1955, serves the Southcentral portion of Whitley County, Indiana, covering 36 square miles primarily comprised of agricultural and rural residential areas. Despite averaging only 55 to 65 runs per year, the department is committed to providing residents with a high level of emergency services comparable to larger departments.
Initially focused on fire response, the WTVFD expanded its capabilities in 1996 to include assistance to EMS crews and began responding to vehicle accidents in 1998 after acquiring rescue tools. The department has since grown from three apparatus to six, added additional bays to its station, and enhanced its training programs to ensure all members meet state requirements and pursue advanced certifications.
