United Way of Southwestern Indiana works with government, businesses, faith groups, nonprofit organizations and local citizens to help people overcome crisis situations and rebuild their lives. It offers the Born Learning, which is a public awareness program that shows parents and caregivers of young children how to make the most of everyday teachable moments, such as grocery shopping and cooking. The program provides easy ways to integrate learning shapes, colors and counting into daily life. The organization partners with public and private schools to provide several after-school programs to students. In addition United Way of Southwestern Indiana offers Day of Caring, a communitywide event in which the organization connects businesses and volunteers with nonprofit agencies in need of help.
