The mission of the Peabody Public Library is to serve individuals of all ages and organizations as a beacon of learning, culture, and entertainment. According to the 1990 census, the library includes about 12, 000 individuals living in Columbia city, Columbia Township and Thorncreek Township, its taxing district. As of March 27, 2010 the library holdings included 6, 342 videos ( VHS & DVD ), 3, 347 music CDs, 2, 758 audiobooks, 46, 592 adults books, a combined 45, 403 for children and young adults' books and 266 Juvenile and adult software.
