Faith in Action-Edgar County

Faith in Action originally was founded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and has now become a nationwide network of interfaith volunteer care-giving programs. These programs bring together volunteers of many faiths to help people who have long-term health conditions or disabilities to enhance their quality of life by providing companionship and assistance with daily activities. The legendary singer and actress Della Reese was the national spokesperson for Faith in Action from 2003 to 2008. Her efforts to promote the good works of Faith in Action volunteers have resulted in substantial media coverage on television and radio and in newspapers and magazines. Although no longer the official spokesperson, Della continues to be an avid supporter of Faith in Action. http: //www.fianationalnetwork.org. Faith in Action of Edgar County is an extraordinary program which offers much needed support to at-risk neighbors in Edgar County. We began providing services September 1, 2003. Trained volunteers offer non-medical services for elderly, disabled, frail, and chronically ill neighbors helping them to remain independently living in their own homes for as long as it is safe and physically possible. Faith in Action's services are provided at no charge and include but are not limited to activities such as shopping/errands, transportation to medical appointments, companionship, construction of wheelchair ramps, steps/handrails and occasional help with household chores. More than one quarter of Americans over age 55, approximately 16 million people, struggle with daily activities as simple as shopping, cooking and housework.
