Lyn Stevens, NP - Beacon Medical Group Urology Elkhart

About Lyn Stevens The youngest memory Lyn Stevens, DNP, has was when her mother and cousin visited her in Chicago’s Children’s Memorial Hospital (now the Lurie Children’s Hospital) in 1964. “I believe this implanted a seed that just continued throughout my childhood,” she says. “In 1978, I saw an ad for nurse aide at the local critical access hospital. That position was the beginning of my healthcare career.” Lyn began her studies at Indiana University School of Nursing, Indianapolis, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She then went on to Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY, where she obtained her Master of Science in Advanced Practice Nursing. This was followed by time spent at Valparaiso University, Valparaiso, IN, where she completed her Master’s Certificate in Family Advanced Practice Nursing and then her Doctor of Nursing Practice. Curiosity and the desire to continue to provide needed care led Lyn to become a DNP. Her role, as she describes it, is to meet total strangers and try to get to know their understanding of health and their goals so that she can help them. About Sunny “Marie” Johnson A career in medicine was always something Sunny “Marie” Johnson, NP, wanted to pursue. When her husband was diagnosed with brain cancer she decided on the path of nursing. “The nurses and NPs that helped to care for my husband were amazing and left a lasting impression on me,” Marie says. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing as well as her Master of Science in Nursing/Family Nurse Practitioner Track at Goshen College, Goshen, IN. Marie has hospital experience in oncology care and general medical care. The field of urology interested her because she had a close family member who dealt with kidney stones for more than 25 years. In addition, Marie researched prostate cancer during her master’s program work. In her role, Marie examines and diagnoses patients and provides education on what it all means, and then follows them through their treatment plan.
