About Dr. Campbell Dr. Mary Elizabeth Campbell always knew she would be a doctor, even from a young age. “Despite exploring other career paths, I always kept coming back to medicine,” she says. She received degrees in both biology (BS) and history (BA) at Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame, IN. As a Beacon physician, Dr. Campbell focuses on family medicine, and is able to offer obstetrics and substance abuse treatments, like Suboxone, which is for the treatment of opioid addiction. “My philosophy is to treat the whole person both mentally and physically, particularly by listening to my patients,” she says. “I have learned that the best tool is to truly listen to the patient while trying to find the best treatment approach to help them.” In her own words… What was your first job growing up? What do you remember about it? My first job was a summer camp counselor at Camp Eberhart. I remember most the pure joy of kids being able to experience and learn new things they had never tried before. What is your favorite food? Movie? My favorite food is fondue. I enjoy most historical movies so long as they are “close” to being accurate. What was your best/worst subjects in school growing up? I loved all subjects particularly history and science, but I could never master any art past stick figures. If you could sit down to dinner with anyone (alive or deceased) who would it be and why? Alice Roosevelt: she had the courage and the fortitude of a woman out to change the world. In addition to medicine, what are you passionate about? Aside from my husband and two daughters, I am passionate about basset hounds. I also enjoy horseback riding and tennis as well as many water sports, in particular waterskiing. What are your hobbies, interests? I enjoy cross-stitching when I have the time.

About Dr. George Kathleen H. “Katie” George, MD, decided to pursue medicine while she was in college. “I grew up loving science and always considered medicine as a possible career, but several of my shadowing and volunteer experiences in high school and college helped me solidify the decision,” she says. As the second physician in her family, Dr. George follows in the tradition started by her father. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Kalamazoo College, Kalamazoo, MI, and her Doctor of Medicine degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit. Her residency was completed at Memorial Family Medicine Residency, South Bend, IN. Dr. George sees a need for more primary care providers in the healthcare care system, so she chose family medicine as her specialty. “I work with people to help them manage their health. I chose family medicine because it allows me to provide care to people of all ages with a variety of health conditions,” she says. Feeling that she helps people most when she meets them where they are in life, Dr. George says, “I believe my role is to help guide people to make the best health decisions for themselves.” As for how she hopes patients view her care Dr. George says, “I hope they know that if we do not find the right solution or answer on our first attempt, I am committed to working with them to find the next step forward.” In her own words… Who is or was the most influential people/role models in your life? My mom What was your first job growing up? What do you remember about it? I babysat throughout high school, college and medical school. I loved spending time with the kids; I always left in a better mood than I arrived in. What is your favorite food? Movie? Favorite food: Santa Claus melon. Favorite movie: The Holiday. What was your best/worst subjects in school growing up? My best subject was math, and my worst was English. If you could sit down to dinner with anyone (alive or deceased) who would it be and why? Betty White or Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda because I think they are hilarious and would have great stories to share. What are your hobbies, interests? I enjoy sports, reading, going to the movies, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. What is something most people don’t know about you? During college, I considered ditching the science track and studying political science instead.
