Little Cal River Basin Development Commission
The Little Calumet River Basin Development Commission, established in 1980 by the Indiana General Assembly, acts as the local sponsor for the Little Calumet River Indiana Flood Control and Recreation Project. This federally authorized initiative aims to provide structural flood protection up to the 200-year level along the main channel of the Little Calumet River, running from the Illinois State Line to Martin Luther King Drive in Gary.
In addition to flood protection efforts, the Commission oversees various projects related to watershed management, including the Deep River Watershed Modeling study. The organization is committed to preserving the integrity of the river ecosystem, while also ensuring public safety by enforcing no hunting regulations along the riverbanks.
