About Dr. Najib From a young age, Khalid Najib, MD, knew he wanted to pursue a career in medicine. “Medicine offers the unique opportunity to serve others while continuously expanding one’s knowledge,” he says. Dr. Najib completed his undergraduate studies in Biological Sciences at the University of Chicago and earned his Doctor of Medicine degree at Ross University School of Medicine. He completed an Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Chicago (NorthShore) in Evanston, IL. Dr. Najib then pursued three fellowships: a Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, TN, where he served as Chief Cardiology Fellow; an Interventional Cardiology Fellowship at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, LA; and a Complex and High-Risk Interventional Procedures and Structural Fellowship at Michigan State University/Ascension Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo, MI, where he was Chief Interventional Cardiology Fellow. In his practice, Dr. Najib utilizes the latest medical therapies and procedural techniques. “My philosophy is to listen to patients and actively engage them in their care and treatment,” he explains. Dr. Najib specializes in managing and treating various heart and vascular conditions using the latest medical therapies. He focuses on repairing the arteries of the heart and legs, as well as addressing heart valve issues with nonsurgical and minimally invasive techniques. “I chose interventional cardiology because blocked arteries during a heart attack can be opened urgently, providing immediate relief to the patient,” he says. “Additionally, the field of interventional cardiology continues to grow with new procedures and indications that offer patients nonsurgical options with fewer complications and quicker recovery.” Dr. Najib has learned the importance of communication from his patients and listens carefully to their concerns to provide them with the information needed to make the best healthcare decisions. He hopes his patients recognize his dedication to providing high-quality, compassionate, and patient-centered care. “I am very dedicated to helping patients improve their lives,” he says. In his own words… Who is or was the most influential people/role models in your life? It is very difficult to single out a person as there are many people in my life who have been very influential. What was your first job growing up? What do you remember about it? I worked in a basic science research laboratory using zebrafish to study the effects of a particular gene in early cardiac morphogenesis. I remember that research requires a lot of patience and problem-solving. What is your favorite food? My favorite food is stuffed grape leaves. What was your best subjects in school? My favorite subjects in school were math and science. If you could sit down to dinner with anyone (alive or deceased) who would it be and why? I would have dinner with Albert Einstein. Aside from being a masterful mathematician and phenomenal physicist, I would want to understand how he directed his intellectual passion into theoretical innovations and significant scientific advancements. In addition to medicine, what are you passionate about? What are your hobbies, interests? I enjoy traveling, reading, biking, exercising, and spending time with my family. What is something most people don’t know about you? One thing most people don’t know about me is that I am a natural visionary. I often think about the future and constantly seek new ways to improve and revolutionize things.
