Dr. Julie Coyle knows the importance of teamwork and collaboration. As one of 10 kids, she was raised in an atmosphere that thrived on this. Additionally, when she was a McDonald’s manager, she quickly learned the value of teamwork and leadership skills. She transferred those skills when she went back to school for medicine. Having seen mental illness in several people she was close with, she felt called to make a difference in the lives of those dealing with unseen pain. “The best part of my job is interacting with patients,” Dr. Coyle said. “I journey with them the whole way through. I love seeing the progression, and seeing how hard they worked to heal.” After a patient has left the office, Dr. Coyle hopes that patients know that she listens well, is compassionate and empathetic, and up to date on the latest treatment. Outside of work, she loves reading, watching movies or watching basketball.

Hailing from a long line of physicians, a career in medicine seemed like a natural choice for Dr. Jennifer Prins, who had been interested in pursuing that path since high school. However, it was her mentors who introduced her to her chosen specialty. "I had the opportunity to shadow some excellent psychiatrists, and I was impressed by their compassion and holistic approach to empowering patients to improve their quality of life." After completing residency training in general psychiatry, she has enjoyed serving her community as a psychiatrist for many years. "I want my patients to know that I value compassion. I try to be as collaborative as possible, respecting that patients are the experts on their own lives and unique circumstances." That philosophy is the hallmark of her practice and a key reason she chose Beacon. "I was impressed by Beacon's commitment to and involvement in the local community. In her own words... Who is or was the most influential person/role model in your life? My parents. What was your first job growing up? I taught swimming lessons at a local swimming school. I enjoyed sharing something I love with my students. What is your favorite food? Movie? I enjoy many types of food from around the world, especially Vietnamese, Thai and Indian. I don't watch too many movies (although I would likely enjoy the book). What were your best/worst subjects in school growing up? Growing up I enjoyed the sciences and English, but did not have an aptitude for languages. If you could sit down to dinner with anyone (alive or deceased) who would it be and why? Dr. D.A. Henderson, who was the director of the worldwide campaign to eradicate smallpox. He is a great lecturer, and I would love to hear more of the story of one of the great triumphs of medicine. In addition to medicine, what are you passionate about? What are your hobbies, interests? I enjoy traveling. What is something most people don't know about you? Before developing an interest in medicine, I wanted to be an ichthyologist (someone who studies fish).
