Indianapolis Colts is the National Football League s Indianapolis-based franchise. The organization was established in 1946 when the bankrupt Miami Seahawks franchise of the All-America Football Conference were purchased and relocated to Baltimore by a group led by Bob Rodenberg. The team played as the Baltimore Colts until 1950, when the AAFC merged with the NFL, but was dissolved in 1951. In 1953 owner Carroll Rosenbloom moved the NFL s Dallas franchise to Baltimore and resurrected the Colts team name.
