History

The Foundation was established to help foster the ecumenical relationship between the various Protestant and Catholic communions following the convening of Vatican II in 1962. In subsequent years, the Foundation developed programs for Anglican, Lutheran, and Catholic clergy, moving from Connecticut to Indiana. In 1982, the Archbishop of Canterbury sent an official representative to the Foundation, Bishop John Tinsley of Bristol, England, and in the 1990's, the Foundation formed relationships with the Oxford University Department for Continuing Education and the Centro Pro Unione (in Rome). The Foundation continues to develop and expand its educational offerings, research and publications. It is one of the most religiously and culturally diverse educational institutions in the U.S., representing a variety of Protestant traditions, Roman Catholicism, Judaism (Orthodox, Conservative, Reform, Reconstructionist), Islam (Sunni and Sufi), Buddhism, and secular belief systems.
