Elizabeth is a native of the South Bend/Mishawaka area. She attended Purdue University and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing in 1996. Following graduation, she worked as an RNC in Labor and Delivery at Memorial Hospital in South Bend for 11 years. She then attended IUPUI in Indianapolis to obtain her Master's degree in nursing in 2005 to fulfill her dream of becoming a NP. Elizabeth worked in the Michiana area as a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP) for 8 years prior to joining Dr. Lyons in July of 2013. She continues her work for Beacon where she focuses her services on Gynecology, Urogynecology, and Pelvic Organ Prolapse in the clinic setting. "I want patients to know their concerns are important to me and that we are partners in developing their treatment goals."

What do you remember about it? My first job was at a ’5os and ’60s restaurant in Sawyer Michigan, called Golda’s. I remember spilling a shake all over a customer and making our own French fries with a potato smasher in the back of the restaurant. What is your favorite food? Movie? Favorite food: Authentic Mexican tacos. I love watching the movie Elf. What was your best/worst subjects in school growing up? Worst least favorite subject was history. My best subject was math. If you could sit down to dinner with anyone (alive or deceased) who would it be and why? I would love to sit down with my grandma. She passed away when my mother was young, so I never got to meet her. In addition to medicine, what are you passionate about? I am passionate about my faith, family and fitness. Although fitness is more of a chore! What are your hobbies, interests? Taking family vacations is probably my favorite thing to do! Do you have pets? I have a grand dog, Creed, that lives with me. What is something most people don’t know about you? I was a pickleball champion at the YMCA years ago, before it became popular.

About Shawn Marie Coming from a family of nurses, physicians and a physical therapist, Shawn Marie (Shawnee) Seward’s philosophy as a provider is to promote trust, empower with knowledge and collaborate to meet needs and expectations. She says she promotes health and well-being through education and disease prevention. Her specialty in vascular surgery allows her to expand her abilities in these areas. Shawnee earned her Master of Science in Nursing from Goshen College and has worked in areas of hematology oncology and interventional radiology, in management and clinical nursing roles. Providing holistic, comprehensive care to all of her patients and their families is Shawnee’s goal. “I believe in advocating for every patient and empower them to obtain their highest quality of life,” she says. Her patients have taught her so much over the years including that you should not take anything for granted. Shawnee also has come to believe that everything happens for a reason and there is always a lesson to be learned from experiences and situations. “My passion is to provide compassionate care and to empower my patients with knowledge,” she says, adding that this is what she hopes people have learned from her. I would want to catch them up on life’s events over the years and hear their laughter. In addition to medicine, what are you passionate about? My friends and family – especially the grandbabies. What are your hobbies, interests? Traveling, outdoor activities, having time with the grandchildren.
