The Floyd County Sheriff's Department is a full-service law enforcement agency that protects residents lives, property and individual rights, as well as maintains peace and order. It undertakes various criminal cases and works with other state, local and federal agencies to ensure public safety. The Floyd County Sheriff's Department supports Victim Information and Notification Everyday (VINE), which is a program that informs and involves crime victims in important matters related to their cases. The department offers several support services, including gun registration, animal control, concealed weapon permits, and traffic and parking law enforcement. Brooklawn Child & Family Services, founded in 1851, is a private, nonprofit Kentucky corporation offering a wide range of residential and community-based treatment programs for children with serious emotional disturbances and their families. Brooklawn also operates an accredited special education school in collaboration with the public school system. Its residential programs serve emotionally and behaviorally troubled boys between 6- to 18-years of age. The center also provides case management, out-patient therapy and in-home support services to children of all ages and their families. Its staff includes board-certified psychiatrists, clinical social workers, an art therapist, psychological associates, marriage and family therapists, nurses, special education teachers, recreation leaders, a chaplain and child care staff.
