History

We are located in the historic McEwen-Samuels-Marr House. The hyphenated name comes from the first three owners: William McEwen built the house in 1864, David and Samuel Samuels (father and son) bought the house in 1872 and greatly enlarged it, and James Marr bought it in 1899. After the Marr family sold the house in 1921, it passed through several more owners and eventually was turned into a boarding house. The historical society bought it in 1968 and opened it as a museum in 1973. The building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
