Headquartered in Merrillville, Ind., NiSource is a holding company whose operating businesses engage in nearly all phases of the natural gas business. From exploration and production, to transmission, storage and distribution, as well as electric generation, transmission and distribution, NiSource companies serve customers throughout Gulf of Mexico, Midwest and New England areas. NiSource's principal subsidiaries include Columbia Energy Group, Northern Indiana Public Service Company and Bay State Gas Company. Columbia Energy Group is a vertically integrated natural gas distribution, transmission and storage holding company whose subsidiaries provide service to customers in the aforementioned regions of the United States. Northern Indiana Public Service Company is a vertically integrated gas and electric company that provides service to customers in northern Indiana. Bay State is a natural gas distribution company that serves customers in New England. NiSource has four business segments: gas distribution operations, gas transmission and storage operations, electric operations and other operations. Robert C. Skaggs Jr. has been the chief executive officer of NiSource for more than one year. He has been with the utility company for over 25 years. Skaggs earned a BBA from Davidson College, and a MBA from Tulane University.
