Oliver's Woods Nature Preserve is a 53-acre urban nature preserve located in Indianapolis, Indiana. Situated along the White River, this preserve offers a nature immersion experience in the midst of a bustling commercial district. It features 16 acres of woods, 37 acres of prairie-savanna restoration, and a mile of White River frontage. The preserve is open to the public and provides easy, accessible trails for mountain bikers, joggers, and walkers to enjoy. Native species like wild ginger, Virginia bluebells, waterleaf, wild hyacinth, and trillium flourish here, thanks to the efforts of volunteers who have helped build trails, plant native plants and trees, and remove invasive species. Oliver's Woods Nature Preserve was generously left to the Central Indiana Land Trust (CILTI) by Oliver Daugherty, a benefactor who passed away in 2009. Its restoration and opening were made possible through support from various donors, including the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust, the Glick Family Fund, and the Central Indiana Community Foundation. Thousands of hours of volunteer support from businesses and local community groups have also contributed to the success of this preserve. Visitors can park in the adjacent parking lot and access the crushed gravel trail along the river, as well as participate in a citizen science project to monitor creek conditions. Friendly volunteer docents are available on specific days to provide information and assistance to visitors.Generated from the website
