He graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1983 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology and attended Southern Illinois University - School of Dental Medicine in Alton, IL, graduating in 1987. He served as a General Practice Resident in Dentistry at St. Marys Hospital in E. St. Louis Illinois for 1 year, receiving a Post-Doctoral Certificate.
