About Saint James We would like to welcome you to the website St. James School in Highwood, Illinois. We are located on Chicago's North Shore, about 30 miles north of the heart of the Windy City. We are also located within a short drive of Great Lakes Naval Training Center. We are happy to have a very diverse student body, with children coming to us from the Highwood/ Highland Park communities, as well as from Great Lakes and Fort Sheridan. St. James is a Catholic school, with a student enrollment of about 200 students and an ideal student teacher ratio of about 15 to 1. The school was established in 1925 and it has a well deserved reputation as a school which offers superb academics and a strong emphasis on Catholic/Christian faith development. We are proud of our students' high performance on standardized tests, scoring at or near the top 10% of all students in the nation. This has allowed us to apply for the prestigious Blue Ribbon Award from the United States Department of Education.
