Athena's Silverland Desserts was founded in 1983 by Athena Uslander and Lisa Silverman with a single product - an irresistible brownie taken from an old family recipe. Back then the company was known as Silverland Brownies and operated out of a 400 square foot space in Elmwood Park, IL just off of Harlem Avenue. Over 25 years the name and logo have changed a little - Lisa sold her half of the business after the first year - but what has not changed is the commitment to start with the best ingredients and produce the finest and most consistently excellent baked goods for our clients, whether large chain stores, or our treasured individual customers. Today Athena's product line has grown to include Cookies, Dessert Bars, Nutritional Bars, and Crispy Rice Treats, each of them developed, tested, and controlled for absolute taste perfection by Athena herself.Formerly a structural engineer, Athena brought the same concern for detail and quality to her Silverland bakery that she once applied to designing bridges In the years since she traded her hard hat for a baker's hat her Silverland desserts have grown into a Chicago sensation, with people coming from all over the Chicagoland area to enjoy these mouth-watering, delectable treats and then sending them to friends and relatives as gifts. Before long Silverland was receiving requests from all over the country and providing products for large retail chains which share Athena's passion for quality. Silverland dessert delights have won numerous industry awards and have been featured by Weight Watchers and recognized in local and national media, including The Food Network, The Travel Channel, USA Today, Good Housekeeping, and many major Chicago area publications.In 2005, the multi-faceted Athena was chosen as a model and spokeswoman for Unilever's Dove Pro-AgeTM campaign, introducing skin care products targeted to women over the age of 50. This experience took her to an appearance on Oprah and a feature on The Today Show, which put her Silverland bakery before a national audience. It also took her to major media and talk show appearances in Canada and Spain, where she opened that country's Dove Pro-AgeTM campaign. For Athena, the common thread is getting it just right, and this is why her rich dessert creations are still and always made with the finest ingredients, including real cocoa mass chocolate and whole eggs - all natural, no additives, no preservatives, and Trans Fat Free.
