I'm a newbie to Martial Arts. Was nervous because I was expecting the Cobra Kai, but Erik (instructor) is more like a younger and much taller Mr. Miyagi. I'm sure he doesn't want me comparing...

Shobu Karatedo, established in 2012, is a community-based dojo located on Chicago's North Side that specializes in traditional Okinawan Shorin-ryu karatedo. Drawing from the Matsubayashi sect, the dojo emphasizes a steadfast approach to martial arts training while honoring its lineage that traces back to the origins of Okinawan karate through Shoshin Nagamine.
In addition to formal waza techniques, kata forms, and yakusoku kumite, Shobu Karatedo incorporates free form principles that promote individual expression of techniques, focusing on elements such as footwork, timing, and spirit.
