Shawnee RC & D Area
The Riverto River Cooperative Weed Management Area (CWMA) is a collaborative initiative established in 2006, comprising 13 federal and state agencies, organizations, and universities dedicated to combating the threat of invasive plants in Southern Illinois. Through education, public awareness, early detection, and management strategies, the CWMA aims to address both terrestrial and aquatic invasive species across 11 southern counties.
Funded by various grants, the CWMA focuses on cooperative efforts to mitigate the short- and long-term impacts of nonnative invasive plants while promoting research and community engagement. Their projects and activities are designed to enhance the health of local ecosystems and protect wildlife habitats from the spread of exotic invasive species.
