Kankakee School District 111 It Department

We serve a diverse student population and provide an array of exceptional programs. Our excellent Magnet School Program offers our parents a choice. They have access to the Arts, Computer, Math, Science and Montessori Magnet. In addition, students in grades seven and eight experience the middle school teaming approach as well as honors classes. High school students in grade nine experience the Freshman Academy and students in grades ten though twelve have access to the Business Partnership Academy, the Health Careers Academy, and Honors Program and Advanced Placement. Each year we celebrate the outstanding accomplishments of our graduates as they enter some of the finest colleges and universities in the country. In an effort to prepare our students for a leadership role in a society that is increasingly diverse, global, and technological, the Board of Education convened a group of approximately 100 parents, staff, community residents, business leaders, and social service agencies to update the strategic plan. A new strategic plan was developed and adopted by the Board of Education in the spring of 2005. This new plan will guide the district's school improvement initiatives over the next five years.District initiatives include literacy and math with a specific focus on curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Another initiative is to expand instructional technology for curriculum integration. The district is extremely proud of the number of grants it has garnered to support student learning. The Reading First, Enhancing Technology through Education, Library, Advanced Placement, and Preschool for All grants provide approximately $2.5 million for curriculum enhancement, and expanded technology applications for all students. I invite you to visit our schools to see for yourself our fine programs in action. While you are there, talk to our students. They are our best ambassadors. I am confident you will be pleased with what you observe.
