John Belz, MD, FAAP, provides care with the Springfield Clinic's Pediatrics Department and sees patients at Springfield Clinic Pediatrics.Dr. Belz earned his medical degree from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield. He completed his pediatrics residency at the University of Iowa in Iowa City and is board certified in Pediatrics from American Board of Pediatrics.Dr. Belz was drawn to medicine after witnessing the impact of a challenging diagnosis within his family. He found his calling in pediatrics, saying, "I love working with kids. There hasn't been a day so far in my time in pediatrics that a child hasn't put a smile on my face. Being around kids is such a joyful experience."Born and raised in Springfield, Dr. Belz is excited to return and practice in his hometown. "I'm coming back to the area to practice here for the rest of my life," he says. "As a pediatrician, I value the long-term relationships I can build with families—from newborns through college—and I’m committed to being here for the long haul. This is my home."In his free time, Dr. Belz enjoys playing video games and spending time with friends and family.

Springfield Clinic pediatrics welcomes patients to our state-of-the-art 40,000 square foot pediatrics building focused on providing a unique child-focused patient experience. Springfield Clinic Pediatrics is located at 3501 Old Jacksonville Road in Springfield, Illinois. The facility offers general pediatrics, pediatric dermatology, our Pediatric Healthy Lifestyle Center as well as supportive services, including on-site lab and radiology, lactation consultation and mental health therapy. The location includes 60 brightly colored exam rooms and a new on-site café, Sprouts. The facility also incorporates car-free pedestrian routes to access the building from the parking lot. Claudine Gillison, MD, FAAP, is with Springfield Clinic’s Pediatrics Department, seeing patients at the Springfield Clinic Pediatrics facility in Springfield. Dr. Gillison joined Springfield Clinic in 2010. Dr. Gillison was born and raised in the Peoria area and received her master’s degree in clinical psychology from Eastern Illinois University. Dr. Gillison earned her medical degree at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield and completed her residency with Indiana University at Riley Children’s Hospital, recognized as one of the best children’s hospitals in the Midwest. “I was getting my master’s degree in psychology, and really enjoyed working with kids,” says Dr. Gillison. “That’s what got me interested in pediatrics.” Dr. Gillison provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment in pediatric and adolescent medicine for children of all ages. “I like to focus on not just physical health, but mental health as well,” says Dr. Gillison. “We see a lot of kids with depression and anxiety. A lot of times it’s hard for kids to come in and talk about those things, but I try to make them feel comfortable.” In her free time, Dr. Gillison enjoys photography and playing music with her daughters.
