Proud To Run

History

The Proud to Run (PTR) 10K run & 5K run/walk is organized by an all volunteer, community based board. The first PTR race took place on June 20, 1982. Peg Grey of the Gay Athletic Association, with Rob Williams and Jim White, organized the first 10K run and 1-mile walk so those first 40 runners and walkers could celebrate LGBT Pride in a way that was meaningful to them and give back to the community financially. PTR was inducted into the Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame in 2012. The Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame is both a historic event and an exhibit. Through the Hall of Fame, residents of Chicago and the world are made aware of the contributions of Chicago's lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender communities and the communities' efforts to eradicate homophobic bias and discrimination. In 2016, PTR led the nation in creating a more inclusive race registration for non-binary identifying runners. This year, Proud to Run is excited to be included in the CARA Circuit Race for

Specialties

A part of Chicago's Gay and Lesbian Pride Week activities since 1982, Proud to Run (PTR) is an annual 10K run & 5K run/walk along the lakefront, focused on celebrating pride in a healthy way and raising funds to support the greater Chicago area LGBTQ community. In 2016 we had a record turnout of more than 1,800 registrants. Overall, more than 2,200 people participated in last year's event by running, walking, volunteering and sponsoring.
