Our mission is to improve the health status of individuals by providing comprehensive, community-based cancer care. The Community Cancer Center is a joint venture between two local hospitals, OSF Healthcare and Advocate Bromenn. In the late 1990's both hospitals came together to create the facility in order to ensure state of the art technology and high-quality cancer care in the community for the future. Opened in 1999, the Center was a result of the generosity of this community as 6.5 million dollars was donated for its creation. The Community Cancer Center just completed a building expansion project, the result of additional generosity from the community that doubled our size as we continue providing care to patients and families in our service area. Additionally, the Center houses a TomoTherapyTM and the Varian True Beam STX that performs Stereotactic Radiosurgery along with IMRT and respiratory gating. We also have a stationary PET/CT on site that is integrated and dedicated for cancer diagnostic services. More than 100 volunteers, many of whom are cancer survivors themselves, are well equipped to understand the patient experience and provide thousands of hours of service. The Center is blessed with support services that include an oncology social worker, oncology dietitian, breast health navigator, health educator and chaplain available to all patients and family members. The Resource Center located is for health professionals, patients and family members with its hundreds of books covering many cancer-related topics. The Resource Center also provides a new website with up to date information from the National Cancer Institute (www.cancerhelpcommunitycancercenter.org ) The Center offers many support groups throughout each month for both patients and family members.
