Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra
The Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra (MYSO) is dedicated to nurturing young musicians from junior high and high schools in Joliet and surrounding communities, fostering a lifelong love of music through performance and expression. Founded in Chicago in 1959, MYSO is partially supported by the Illinois Arts Council and provides a platform for students to develop their talents and engage with diverse communities in the southwest suburbs of Chicago.
In memory of former violinist Nicolette Bellos, who exemplified perseverance and strength throughout her life, MYSO honors her legacy by naming the concertmaster chair after her. Her inspiring journey, which included overcoming serious health challenges, continues to motivate both the organization and its members to give back to the community through music.
