The McLean County Health Department provides a range of public health services for a population of nearly 160,000 people. It strives to protect and promote the public's health in areas, such as community assessment, communicable disease and animal control, and environmental, personal and mental health. The department also focuses on health promotion and emergency public health preparedness. The McLean County Health Department is engaged in the assessment and analysis of health conditions and development of local health policies. Its mental health services include crisis intervention, adolescent substance abuse prevention, and support, training and intervention for developmentally disabled children and adults. The department operates an environmental health division that inspects food establishments to ensure the proper storage, handling and cooking of food. The sheriff s office supports Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.), which is an international education program that seeks to prevent the usage of illegal drugs, gang activities and violent behavior. The LaSalle County Sheriff's Office maintains a K-9 unit that handles cases related to drug intervention, tracking, and searches for persons, buildings and evidence. It also operates a communication center that responds to emergency and nonemergency law enforcement, fire and medical assistance calls. The LaSalle County Sheriff's Office is located in Ottawa, Ill.

Champaign-Urbana Public Health District, also known as CUPHD, offers various educational, collaboration and regulation services. It provides pregnancy care, nutrition counseling, supplemental food coupons, pregnancy tests, genetics referrals and breastfeeding support services for women. The district also offers immunizations, dental care, blood tests, baby care and developmental testing services for children. Additionally, the district provides case management and health screening services. Established in 1937, Champaign-Urbana Public Health District inspects tanning facilities and food and drink establishments. The district, with a location in Champaign, Ill., also operates a facility in Rantoul, Ill. Its grants are administered by the Illinois Department of Public Health.
