Established in 1992, Kalapadma Bharatanatyam Dance Academy in Chicago carries forward a legacy of promoting classical Indian dances, rooted in its founding by Smt. Vishalakshi Johri and nurtured by the teachings of Natyacharya Shri Shankar Hombal. The academy is dedicated to training students in the ancient art of Bharatanatyam, offering examinations from Prathama to M.A. levels, and has produced notable dance dramas throughout its history.
Artistic director Ruth Parijata Varghese leads the academy with her extensive background in Bharatanatyam and Odissi, complemented by numerous accolades for her contributions to dance and cultural heritage.
