HistoryCross-Cultural Interpreting Services was established in 1996 to improve access to services for Limited-English-Proficiency (LEP) individuals. CCIS was the first program of its kind in Illinois to recruit, assess language skills, and train in the medical interpreting field. Cross-Cultural Interpreting Services is a program of Heartland Alliance for Human Rights and Human Needs, a not for profit organization established here in Chicago 125 years ago.
