The Elijah Iles House, built circa 1837, is the oldest surviving structure in Springfield, Illinois, and represents a significant piece of the city's history as it was constructed by one of its founders, Elijah Iles. This Greek Revival cottage has remained largely unchanged since its establishment and is now managed by the Elijah Iles House Foundation for public education and historical preservation.
Hosting regular tours and events, the house showcases an extensive collection of pre-Civil War furniture and houses the Farrell and Ann Gay Museum of Springfield History. It has been recognized for its architectural and historic significance, achieving listing on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977 and undergoing restoration funded primarily by private donations.
