East St Louis 1917 Centennial Commn & Cultural Initiative
The East St. Louis 1917 Centennial Commission and Cultural Initiative was established in 2014 with the mission of recognizing the centennial of the tragic 1917 pogrom. After completing its work in 2020, the commission's efforts were turned over to the East St. Louis Historical Society, which continues to honor the legacy and memory of the events that transpired.
Throughout its active years, the commission organized a series of cooperative events, including the Sacred Sites and Historical Marker projects, to commemorate the victims and educate the community. Its commitment to preserving local history is now carried on by dedicated volunteers at the East St. Louis Historical Society.
