History

Chicago Gallery News was founded to centrally promote the openings and exhibition of a handful of galleries in what is today known as River North. Eventually the gallery scene expanded throughout the city. New galleries continue to open their doors, and the city's strong visual arts culture continues to thrive. CGN has evolved too. What began as a four-page black and white pamphlet today covers dozens of regional art spaces and visual arts happenings, reaching readers in the Midwest and beyond. CGN aims to be a clear, accessible link to the creative world, as well as an advocate on behalf of our art community. Published in print 3 times a year, our magazines and website feature over 120 galleries and arts institutions and their exhibitions and specialties plus art-related businesses and resources and a series of art profiles, highlighting many unique perspectives. Magazines distributed in galleries, museums, the Chicago Cultural Center and many hotels. Subscriptions are available.
