Boone County Special Education

The Harlem Transportation Department has a fleet of more than 70 buses that provides transportation services for over 6,000 students. It offers pickup and delivery services and covers approximately 20 square miles of area. Located in Machesney Park, Ill., the Harlem Transportation Department is operated by the Harlem Consolidated School District 122, which serves nearly 7,000 students in elementary, middle and high schools. The district also operates special education, human resources and administration departments.

THE MILL, formed in 1978, is a residential treatment center and a therapeutic day school for abused, neglected and at-risk youth. The agency s sponsors include the United Way Rock River Valley, National Association of Homes and Services to Children and Illinois Interagency Athletic Association. It has been conferred with the Rainbow Award, Rock River Valley Gold Award, Achievement Award and Pacesetter Award. THE MILL offers a full range of residential services that include intervention and treatment for emotional and behavioral issues, lodging facilities, and services of therapeutic day and public school. The agency provides group, individual and family counseling, and art, music and recreational activities. THE MILL is located in Rockford, Ill.
