Shakers

The Shakers, based in Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village, New Gloucester, Maine, represent the only active Shaker community in the world, preserving over 240 years of unique values, philosophies, and traditions. They offer a variety of educational and cultural experiences, including workshops and demonstrations rooted in herbalism, agriculture, culinary arts, and traditional crafts.

The newly rehabilitated HerbHouse Cultural Center will serve as a year-round educational hub, featuring over 8,000 square feet dedicated to production rooms and traditional arts studios. This center aims to engage local audiences and align cultural learning experiences with the school calendar, reaching nearly 100,000 students within a 60-mile radius.
