The Idaho Geological Survey (IGS) is the leading agency in Idaho for collecting and disseminating geologic information and mineral data. With offices in Moscow and Boise, the IGS has been serving the state since 1919, providing timely and relevant geologic information to support the development of natural resources in an efficient and socially responsible manner.

The IGS conducts research, produces geologic maps, and publishes reports and datasets that enhance our understanding of Idaho's geology, mineral resources, groundwater, oil and gas, and geothermal areas. They also study and provide data on geologic hazards such as earthquakes, landslides, and volcanic eruptions, aiming to mitigate their impacts and minimize losses. Through educational presentations, outreach events, and the dissemination of geologic data, the IGS promotes excellence in the teaching and practice of earth sciences in Idaho.
