Flying Fish Company

History

The Flying Fish Co. was opened in Sandpoint, ID in 1979 by Craig Gildersleeve. As a flight instructor helping pilots log the many hours one needs to gain their license, Craig had an ingenious idea; why not make the flight from Sandpoint to the Pacific NW, pick up fresh fish and bring it back for the locals to enjoy? It was a win-win for aspiring pilots and our fair town. And that's how the name Flying Fish Co. was born. In 2015, Craig decided it was time to retire and sold the market to Rob and Susan Harper, Sandpoint locals and frequent Flying Fish customers since 1992. One of Rob Harper's first jobs was as a commercial fisherman based out of San Diego, where he fished the waters of El Salvador, Columbia and Costa Rica near the equator. Finally, after a long and successful career as the owner of Northwest Concrete, life has come full circle for Rob, bringing him back to an industry close to his heart where he and Susan can indulge their foodie passions and love for entertaining.
