The USS Utah Memorial in Honolulu, HI, honors the legacy of the battleship USS Utah, commissioned in 1911 and known for its active role in various military engagements, including World War I and the early years of World War II. The ship was tragically sunk during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, resulting in the loss of 58 crewmembers.
In 1972, a memorial was established near the wreck site to commemorate those who served aboard the USS Utah and to recognize the ship's historic significance as the first named after the state of Utah. As a target ship during the late 1930s, the USS Utah also played a crucial role in training naval gunners before its fateful end at Pearl Harbor.
